EFS#9 National Taichung Girls’ Senior High School

Dear All,

This is EFS9, National Taichung Girls’ Senior High School (TCGS), Taiwan. There are four students in EFS9 and the teachers are our principal, Mr. H.C. Tai, and Ms. Wendy Huang. The following are our self-introductions.

     [Wendy Huang]

Hello Dear learning circle partners! This is Wendy. I’m a practice English teacher for grades 10-12. I serve my internship this year at National Taichung Girls' Senior High School, a well-known school full of girl power (Bob knows it!) located in central Taiwan. Actually this is the first time I heard of iEARN and I really appreciate the online international learning environment it offers.

The EFS group in my school is composed of four cute and brilliant girls, two of grade 10 (Shanda & Jenny) and two of grade 11 (Ivy & Pin-Jhen). They all care a lot about global ecological environment and want to do something to understand and help this planet. I firmly believe that they can learn a lot from other EFS partners through this project! We look forward to learning more about you!

    [Ivy Yang]

Hi, I am Ivy, an eleventh-grader in Taichung Girl’s High School. I grow up in a warm and happy family of four members and both of my parents are teachers. I’m an easy-going and optimistic girl. My hobbies are watching TV, listening to music and reading novels. As a Taiwanese, I would really like to show you our beautiful country during this project .Hope to learn more!

    [Jenny Gee]

Hello! My name is Jenny. I'm a optimistic and easy-going girl who likes to travel. I hope I can travel around the world one day! Even though Taiwan is related to China in many aspects, I think Chinese history is difficult. It's the subject I'm not good at, but I like science very well. I want to dedicate myself to the world and make friends with you, and that's why I join EFS. Hope we can turn our world into a better one!

    [Pin-Jhen (Jenny) Chen]

Hi everyone, this is Pin-Jhen (Jenny). I was born in Penghu (an island of Taiwan), and I’m now studying in grade 11 in TCGS. I’m an outgoing and imaginative girl who always wears a sunny smile. In my leisure time I love listening to music, enjoying the delicacies and DIY. The reason why I join EFS is that I want to use my creativity to make our home (the Earth) better. Let’s do our best and have a wonderful time!

    [Shanda Wun]

Hello! My name is Shanda, a candid sixteen-year-old girl who is enthusiastic about life and who delights in accepting new challenges. I like anything about Astronomy, Physics, Technology and Philosophy. Music is also my love because it always refreshes my spirit. I can’t live without music! I’m glad that I can take part in this international project and work with so many people from different countries. This is definitely a new and meaningful experience!

About Taiwan

Taiwan was once named ‘Formosa’ by Portuguese because of its pleasant scenery and a variety of wildlife. There are lots of resources in Taiwan, for example, volcanoes, coral and hot springs.

In terms of culture, there are 12 ethnic groups with different traditions in Taiwan. In addition to this, Taiwan was colonized by the Dutch, Spanish, and Japanese in the past. Taiwanese culture, hence, is multiple and colorful.

We are proud of being Taiwanese!!!

Sorry for answering your questions so late, we just finished our midterm.

There are 54 classes and more than 2700 students and 170 faculty members in our school. But only 4 students, 1 teacher, and the principal join EFS#9. It’s a little bit difficult to introduce the other students (too many!!). Maybe you can tell us which part you’re interested in, and I can explain it for you. (BTW, we’ll have our fun fair and ball on April 9. If, you’re interested, I can show you some pictures then.)

Taiwan is a subtropical island between 22-25 north latitude and 114-124east longitude, so the weather is like an eternal spring here (most of time).

If you want to know more about Taiwan and us, we’ll always be here for you!!!

Are there only four girls in the whole school?
I am interested to get to know you all and what kinds of people you are :)
You seem to have a very large school for only 5 people ( 4 students and 1 teacher)
How is the weather in Taiwan? Canada might be very cold, but we have our warm times in the year. Some people in other countries seem to think we live in Igloos!
Anyways, it has been a pleasure reading your introductions and I hope to get to know you all more during this program.
